The Mercy Fund allows Mission of Mercy to
respond to urgent, sometimes life threatening needs without having
to wait for specific appeals. In addition, it gives our leadership
the ability to move funds to areas where the need is greatest. Examples
of how the fund is used include:
-
While we have tens
of thousands of children sponsored at $30 monthly by loving
people, there are several thousand children in our program who
are waiting for a sponsor. The time between enrollment of a
child in our program and finding a sponsor for that child can
be several months. The Mercy Fund provides support for these
children until a sponsor is linked to that child.
-
When do you need a loving
touch the most? When disaster strikes your life. When the tsunami
of December 26, 2004 hit the shores of Sri Lanka, Mission of
Mercy was one of the first organizations to respond. We were
only able to act so quickly because of money available through
our Mercy Fund. We must consistently replenish these funds so
that we can continue to provide immediate help to children in
desperate need when it could mean life or death.
-
When a child has
a critical medical need, perhaps a surgery, Mission of Mercy
needs to respond immediately. Children's lives have been saved,
and long term affects of unattended ailments have been averted
because field staff is empowered to respond to medical crises.
-
A budget crisis . .
. or an opportunity to open a new ministry area enabling Mission
of Mercy to embrace more children. . . . These are events that
require quick action and immediate financial attention. The
Mercy Fund makes it possible for us to solve the problem or
walk through the open door.
-
The backbone of Mission of Mercy is
the loving care provided by our Child Services staff
in Colorado Springs, Colorado and around the world. These dedicated
workers are the link between the children who desperately need
help and the donors who want to help. Our Child Services team
ensures that our children receive donor support in a timely,
efficient manner.
